SPC March “Mission” Madness

What is it? A chance to boost the giving for your favorite SPC Mission!

What it isn’t? A chance to win money.

How will we do it? We’ll use the upcoming NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments to tap into your competitive, philanthropic, fun-loving nature.

How much will it cost? The entry is a minimum $15 donation per tournament bracket, but there’s nothing saying that you can’t donate more or create multiple tournament brackets at $15 each.

What do I win? You win bragging rights and the privilege of determining which SPC Mission will receive the proceeds from the pool of money donated. The individuals with the four highest point totals will each determine which Mission will get their share of the pool. The overall winner gets unfettered bragging rights. The Southminster-sponsored missions you can choose from: Bridge Communities, Cuba Sister Church, DuPage PADS, Metropolitan Family Services, People’s Resource Center, Walk-In Ministry, World Relief, and Youth Mission Trip.

Who can participate? It’s not gambling, so anyone of any age can join in. Friends and extended family are welcome too. The more the merrier.

I’m in! When will this happen? Teams are announced on “Selection Sunday”, March 16. People can begin filling in their brackets as early as Monday, March 17 and have them completed no later than 10 a.m., March 20 (Men’s) and March 21 (Women’s). The Women’s Championship game will be held on April 6 and the Men’s on April 7.

I’m not a sports fan, how do I fill out the brackets? This is the best part! The best basketball minds in the world are known for lousy bracket picks. You choose however you like. Some people pick purely by how the teams are seeded, what conference they’re from, others by the name of the team, others by the color of the uniforms, others by how cute the mascot is. You can’t go wrong – because some of our SPC missions will be the real winners, so join in on the fun!

Who will keep score of all the entries? We will use the ESPN website. You will need to create an account on ESPN.go.com. We’ll have our own webpage that will keep all of the scoring for our SPC March “Mission” Madness. Everyone that participated last year can use their same account this year. In other words, no need to go through the account set up procedure again, assuming you still have your login information.

Ugh, create an account, that sounds like a hassle. Don’t worry, it’s a simple process, and we’ll have detailed instructions in the coming weeks. We can’t set up the webpage until the evening of March 16, but you can create an account at any time. Stay tuned and be on the look-out for more details.

What if I have more questions? Troy Hammer is our “Master of the Madness.”
